Jenna Bush Hager, Sheinelle Jones call out 'Today' cohost on-air

On-Air Catch: Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones Call Out Co-Host Dylan Dreyer During Live 'Today' Broadcast

NEW YORK — Morning television is no stranger to unscripted, behind-the-scenes chaos, but a hilarious moment on Tuesday’s broadcast of NBC’s Today left viewers and anchors alike in stitches.

During the third hour of the show, co-anchors Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones temporarily put their planned segment on hold to bring light to a funny scene taking place just feet away from their anchor desk: fellow co-host and meteorologist Dylan Dreyer secretly enjoying an early lunch behind the cameras.

Caught in the Act Behind the Lens

As Bush Hager and Jones walked onto the studio floor on Tuesday morning, Oct. 6, they couldn't help but notice Dreyer tucked away in a corner of the Studio 1A set.

"I was trying to debate on whether I was going to say anything," Jones confessed to the audience as she took her seat at the desk, admitting that the sight had completely thrown off her concentration. "People need to see. Look at Dylan hiding behind the camera."

The production crew quickly pivoted, panning the cameras across the studio floor to reveal Dreyer standing near the broadcast cameras. Caught red-handed, Dreyer was actively chow-down on a freshly prepared salad served directly off a large metal baking sheet.

"We said that the kitchen is not normally available to do cooking segments on Tuesdays, and she said, 'It is for us,'" Bush Hager recounted with a laugh, highlighting Dreyer’s determination to grab a bite during the live broadcast.

A Dish Too Good to Pass Up

The feast in question was no ordinary lunch. Earlier in the morning broadcast, celebrity Chef Yotam Ottolenghi made a guest appearance in the Today kitchen to showcase a mouth-watering sheet-pan chicken Caesar salad segment alongside anchors Craig Melvin, Savannah Guthrie, and Al Roker.

Once the cameras stopped rolling on the cooking demonstration, the leftover sheet pan of roast chicken and tossed greens was left in the studio—and Dreyer didn't hesitate to stake her claim.

Jones teasingly called out her colleague’s lack of sharing etiquette: "She didn't even say, 'You want some?' She was just like, 'Mm, this is good,'" Jones joked on-air. "That must be a good grilled chicken Caesar salad."

Bush Hager chimed in with agreement, adding, "She's really going after it."

Stepping Up On-Air and Extra Duties

The lighthearted studio moment comes after a busy week for Dreyer on the Today set. Just over a week prior, the meteorologist had to quickly step in to cover extra weather reporting duties during the morning broadcast after longtime weatherman Al Roker had to make an abrupt mid-show exit.

Roker later took to social media to clarify his sudden departure, reassuring fans that there was no emergency—he had simply been summoned to fulfill his civic duty for jury duty at a local courthouse.

Despite the packed schedule and shifting studio responsibilities, Dreyer proved once again that whether she is delivering national forecasts or sneaking a snack off a sheet pan mid-broadcast, she knows how to keep Today viewers entertained.
