NBC4 Washington (WRC) reporter and anchor Joseph Olmo said goodbye to viewers at the end of Sunday’s newscast.
After spending around seven years with NBC4, covering stories across the Washington region and reporting for Telemundo 44 (WZDC), Joseph is stepping away.
Announcing his decision to quit on his latest live broadcast, Joseph said: “Well, before we go tonight, I’ve got just one more story for you.
“For the better part of a decade, which includes three thrilling years right here at NBC 4, I have had one remarkable job.
“You can cover the world, but nothing compares to being a local news reporter. Because think about it. Who else would tell you about all the things happening where we live?
“To watch all these moments in person and then share what I see with you has been so cool.
“And to do it at a channel that’s been watched for nearly 80 years, be part of a legendary team that works quite literally 24 over seven.
“It has been remarkable. So now to the bittersweet part,” he went on.
“In life, you are often encouraged to dream big. But what happens when you have several dreams?
“I firmly believe our time here is way too short to get to the end and wonder what if I had tried that?
“So after almost ten years in broadcasting, tomorrow night I will hit the streets of the DMV one final time as a local news reporter.
“As a journalist, what I do after we’re going to talk about that soon. But if you know anything about me, you will not be surprised, my friends. And just one more thing that will never be said enough.
“Whenever you watch us on TV or online, remember one means many. You may see one person on at a time, but there are hundreds of people who get us here.
“And to my entire NBC 4 family, I say thank you for letting me part of this accomplished team. And to everybody who watches us, thank you.”
Reacting to his announcement on Instagram, one person penned: “You have been such a good addition to the NBC4 team, Joseph! You will be missed.”
Another said: “Oh, no. Please don’t go, Joseph! You’re one of the coolest journalists on tv now.”
