Chapter 4 - Corporate Ruin and the Betrayal by Chloe

The next morning, I traded my casual clothes for a razor-sharp, obsidian blazer. Apex Tech Solutions was Jason’s crowning achievement. He believed he had climbed the corporate ladder through sheer grit and charm. He had no idea I had secretly funneled five million dollars through an offshore venture capital firm to save his company from bankruptcy, installing him as VP.

But Jason had a secret of his own. He had been embezzling corporate funds to launch a rival startup, planning to take his clients and his mistress—his beautiful, twenty-two-year-old intern, Chloe—with him.

I bypassed the receptionist and took the private elevator to the top-floor boardroom.

I pushed open the frosted glass doors. The entire executive team was gathered around the mahogany table. Jason was standing at the head, desperately pitching his secret spin-off company to a group of rogue investors, trying to secure a lifeline. Chloe stood faithfully by his side, clicking the presentation slides.

“What the hell are you doing here?!” Jason barked, his face twisting into a snarl. “Security! Remove this woman! You have no jurisdiction here, Isabella!”

I walked slowly past him, the click of my heels echoing like a metronome. The CEO, an old friend of mine named Ian, stood up and respectfully offered me his chair. I sat down.

“I am not here as your wife, Jason,” I said, folding my hands. “I am here because I am the majority shareholder of this corporation.”

Jason barked a harsh, panicked laugh. “You’re insane! I know the cap table!”

I nodded at Ian. The massive projector screen behind Jason hummed to life, displaying a redacted SEC filing. It clearly showed the offshore firm holding 70% of the voting shares, with the sole beneficiary listed as Isabella Thornton.

The air left Jason’s lungs in a sharp hiss. He stumbled back, bumping into Chloe. “No… no, that’s impossible. But it doesn’t matter! I’m leaving anyway! Chloe and I are taking the primary accounts. We have the seed money!”

“Do you?” I asked softly. I looked up at the young, beautiful intern. “Chloe. Be a dear and show Jason the true slides.”

Jason frowned in confusion. Chloe didn’t look at him. Her face completely devoid of emotion, she tapped the keyboard.

The screen flashed. It wasn’t a business plan. It was a series of high-definition photographs, bank statements, and text messages. It showed Jason transferring millions of dollars of Apex Tech funds into offshore accounts.

“What is this?!” Jason screamed, lunging for the keyboard. Chloe stepped deftly out of his way, moving to stand directly behind my chair.

“Did you really think a twenty-two-year-old model loved your corporate synergy, Jason?” I asked, my voice dripping with pity. “Chloe has been on my private payroll for six months. Every romantic dinner, every secret meeting, every illegal document you signed to launder that money… she handed it all to me on a silver platter.”

Jason stared at Chloe, his mind shattering. “You… you set me up? You told me you loved me!”

Chloe finally looked at him, her lips curling into a look of absolute disgust. “You bore me, Jason. And Miss Thornton pays much better.”

“The evidence of your embezzlement was handed over to the FBI at 8:00 AM this morning,” I announced to the dead-silent boardroom. “You are not just fired, Jason. You are going to federal prison.”

Two corporate security guards stepped forward, grabbing Jason by the arms. He fought them like a wild animal, screaming obscenities, crying, begging Chloe for help. As he was dragged out into the hallway, I turned to the board.

“Now. Shall we review the Q3 projections?”
