Chapter 1

My billionaire husband divorced me after telling me I would never be enough for him because he had spent months cheating with other women. He smirked when I walked into court—until I placed our newborn son's DNA test in front of him and watched his family's empire begin slipping out of his hands.
Behind closed doors, I spent most nights alone.
At first, Adrian disappeared for a few weeks at a time. Before long, those trips stretched into months.
Paris. Dubai. Singapore.
Every excuse sounded the same.
Business.
Whenever he missed another anniversary or birthday, his assistant sent flowers instead of apologies. His mother, Celeste, acted as if I should be grateful.
A smart wife never questions a powerful man, she told me with a smile that never reached her eyes.
Then the anonymous emails began.
No words.
Only photographs.
Adrian kissing a famous model in Monaco.
Adrian leaving an expensive Tokyo hotel beside another man's wife.
Adrian standing with a blonde woman wearing the emerald necklace he had fastened around my neck on our anniversary.
I called him immediately.
When he finally answered, he barely looked at the screen.
You knew exactly who I was when you married me, he said while casually stirring a drink.
I knew you worked hard, I replied. I didn't know cheating was part of your schedule.
A cold smile crossed his face.
You were never enough for me, Evelyn. Stop pretending you're surprised.
Two weeks before I gave birth, he filed for divorce.
He didn't even know I was carrying his child.
By then, I had stopped chasing after him. During my pregnancy, I called from the hospital three different times while doctors kept me on strict bed rest. Every call went unanswered.
Meanwhile, Adrian filled social media with pictures of yachts, champagne, and yet another glamorous girlfriend.
The morning after the divorce papers arrived, Celeste called.
Sign everything without causing problems, she ordered. Adrian is already offering far more than you deserve.
The settlement gave me one apartment, a modest payment, and a confidentiality agreement designed to erase me from the Vale family forever. In return, I had to surrender every claim connected to Vale Global.
She still believed I was the quiet orphan Adrian had rescued.
She forgot who I had been before I became Mrs. Adrian Vale.
I was a corporate attorney.
I specialized in hostile takeovers.
And I was the daughter of the investor whose private fund had saved Vale Global from bankruptcy fifteen years earlier.
More importantly, my father had protected that investment with one overlooked clause.
If Adrian committed marital fraud that threatened the future of a direct Vale heir, the family's controlling shares could be transferred into an irrevocable trust for that child.
I looked down at my sleeping newborn son.
Then I looked at Adrian's signature across the divorce papers.

So this is how you want it, I whispered.
I picked up my pen, knowing he still had no idea the biggest surprise of his life was waiting in court.
