FULL STORY: The Mafia boss hadn’t slept peacefully in three years11008
Part 1

The Mafia boss hadn’t slept peacefully in three years, until his housekeeper’s toddler walked into his bedroom and did what every doctor had failed to do. By morning, one innocent sentence from the little girl exposed the family member who needed him broken.
“Mr. Moretti?”
Adrian Moretti looked toward his bedroom door.
It was 12:14 a.m.
Standing there barefoot was Lily Carter, his housekeeper’s three-year-old daughter, wearing yellow pajamas covered in tiny lions and carrying a battered gray rabbit.
“Why are you awake?”
Lily frowned.
“Why are you awake?”
No one spoke to Adrian Moretti that way.
Men twice her size lowered their voices when he entered a room. Newspapers called him a shipping executive and real-estate investor.
The city called him something else.
Lily simply walked inside.
“Mama says you don’t sleep.”
“Your mother said that?”
“No. Mrs. Ricci.”
Of course.
Adrian sighed. “Go back to bed.”
Instead, Lily climbed onto his enormous mattress.
“I know how to fix you.”
For the first time that night, Adrian almost laughed.
Three years.
That was how long he'd survived on scattered minutes of sleep.
Specialists had examined him. Expensive medications had failed. His hands had begun trembling. His memory was slipping. Even his temper frightened him now.
Meanwhile, his younger brother Dominic had quietly assumed more responsibility.
Meetings.
Contracts.
Money.
Everything Adrian was becoming too exhausted to control.
Lily tucked her rabbit beneath her chin.
“You need a story.”
“I need you to go to bed.”
“Once there was a lion who thought he had to watch his cave all night...”
Adrian stopped arguing.
Her tiny voice continued beneath the sound of rain.
The lion watched every shadow because he believed closing his eyes would make him weak.
Then one night, a little rabbit told him something.
“You can’t protect anybody if you’re too tired to stand.”
Adrian stared at Lily.
He never remembered closing his eyes.
When he opened them again, sunlight filled the room.
7:41 a.m.
His heart nearly stopped.
Seven hours.
He had slept seven uninterrupted hours.
Lily was curled beside him.
Then she opened her eyes.
“You slept because you didn’t drink the bad tea.”
Adrian went still.
“What bad tea?”
“The one Uncle Dominic brings.”
His eyes moved toward the untouched cup on his desk.
Lily rubbed her eyes.
“I saw him put drops in it yesterday.”
The room suddenly felt cold.
For three years, Dominic had personally brought Adrian tea almost every night.
For three years, Adrian had grown weaker while his brother gained more control.
And now a three-year-old child had noticed the one thing every doctor had missed.
Adrian reached for his phone.
He didn't call Dominic.
He called the only man in the organization Dominic didn't know was still loyal to him.
“Come to the house,” Adrian said quietly.
His eyes never left that cup.
“And don't tell my brother.”
