Chapter 5 - EPILOGUE

The diner was loud, but it was a good kind of loud.
Rosalie wiped down the counter while eyeing the corner booth, where three dark-haired three-year-olds were systematically dismantling a tower of pancakes.
“Luca, do not throw syrup at your brother,” Damian ordered without looking up from his newspaper. “Did it,” Luca announced proudly, pointing to the sticky spot on Matteo’s nose.
I laughed, walking over with a fresh pot of coffee. I slid into the booth beside Damian, automatically reaching out to catch Sofia’s juice cup before it tipped over. Damian wrapped an arm around me, pressing a kiss to my temple. “Long shift?”
“Only when Denny tries to micromanage me,” I teased. Denny had miraculously kept his job, mostly because he was too terrified of my fiancé to ever step out of line again.
The Marchetti syndicate was different now. Damian had restructured, pulling the family out of the shadows and into legitimate enterprises. St. Catherine's had a new neonatal wing named after Elena.
