Chapter 1

THEY PUSHED A WAITRESS INTO THE POOL AT A BEVERLY HILLS PARTY—BUT MINUTES LATER, A CONVOY OF BLACK LUXURY CARS ARRIVED, AND EVERYONE STOPPED LAUGHING.

The wealthy woman didn't even bother hiding her smile as Claire fell backward into the swimming pool, her silver tray crashing against the marble tiles.

Water exploded around her.

For one terrible second, the entire Beverly Hills mansion went silent.

Then the laughter began.

"Well, perhaps now she'll learn where she belongs," the woman sneered, adjusting her diamond bracelet.

Claire surfaced, gasping, her black uniform soaked and her carefully pinned hair falling across her face.

Around the pool, dozens of elegantly dressed guests stared at her as though she were part of the evening's entertainment.

Some laughed openly.

Others raised their phones.

Not one person offered to help.

And the woman who had pushed her stood at the edge of the pool, smiling triumphantly.

But what none of them realized was that Claire wasn't an ordinary waitress.

And the expensive mistake they had just made was about to change everything.

Three hours earlier, Claire had entered the enormous Beverly Hills estate through the employees' entrance.

The mansion was breathtaking.

Crystal chandeliers glittered above Italian marble floors. Luxury cars filled the circular driveway. Champagne flowed beneath towering arrangements of white roses.

The guests included powerful executives, wealthy investors, and some of Los Angeles's most influential families.

But Claire wasn't interested in their money.

She was watching how they treated the people serving them.

Within her first hour, she had witnessed a guest insult a young bartender for pouring the wrong champagne.

Another woman had snapped her fingers inches from an elderly server's face.

And the event manager, Richard, had threatened to fire a frightened housekeeper after she accidentally dropped a napkin.

"These people pay more for one evening than you'll earn in a year," Richard whispered harshly. "Don't embarrass us."

Claire quietly remembered every word.

She had come to the mansion for one reason: to discover what happened behind the glittering luxury when the staff believed nobody powerful was watching.

And what she discovered was worse than she had imagined.

The confrontation began near the swimming pool.

A wealthy guest wearing a shimmering emerald gown stepped directly into Claire's path.

"Are you blind?" the woman demanded.

Claire stopped immediately.

"I'm sorry, ma'am. May I help you?"

The woman glanced at Claire's uniform with obvious disgust.

"You people are always getting in the way."

Several nearby guests turned to watch.

Claire remained calm.

"I apologize if I've inconvenienced you."

But the woman wasn't satisfied.

"Do you even understand how much this dress costs?"

Before Claire could answer, the woman stepped forward and shoved her hard with both hands.

Claire lost her balance.

Her tray slipped from her fingers.

And she plunged backward into the swimming pool.

The laughter that followed was louder than the music.

Richard hurried over, his face red with anger.

But instead of confronting the woman responsible, he pointed at Claire.

"GET OUT OF THAT POOL! YOU'RE RUINING THIS EVENT!"

Claire gripped the pool's edge, staring at him in disbelief.

"She pushed me."

Richard leaned closer.

"Apologize to the guest. Right now."

The woman in emerald laughed.

"Finally, someone who understands how things work."

Claire slowly climbed out of the water.

Her hands trembled, but her voice remained steady.

"Are you certain that's how you want to handle this?"

Richard scoffed.

"You're fired. Security will escort you out."

Claire looked around at the laughing guests.

Then she reached into her soaked pocket and pressed a button on her phone.

"Understood," she whispered.

At that exact moment, the mansion's enormous iron gates began opening.

One black luxury sedan entered.

Then another.

Then five more.

The laughter gradually faded as the convoy approached the entrance.

Richard turned toward the driveway, visibly confused.

And when the first car stopped, Claire looked directly at the woman in emerald.

"Now," she said quietly, "we'll see who owes whom an apology."

The rear passenger door opened.

And the first person stepped out...
