Chapter 10 - The Master of the House

That evening, a grand celebration was held at the Graves Estate.
The grand dining hall, once cold and austere, was filled with music, laughter, and light. Housekeepers, groundskeepers, corporate executives, and world-class engineers dined together at long banquet tables, unified in celebration.
Rosa danced with Samuel Wilson near the fireplace, while Daniel Reed shared a laugh with Dr. Harrison near the glass conservatory.
Alexander walked out onto the grand terrace overlooking the rolling green hills of the estate. The night sky was clear, studded with thousands of brilliant stars.
Footsteps sounded behind him—smooth, quiet, perfectly balanced.
Annie stepped out onto the terrace, wrapping a silk shawl around her shoulders against the cool evening breeze. She leaned against the stone balustrade beside him.
"It's a beautiful night," she said softly.
"It is," Alexander agreed, looking out at his estate. "For fourteen years, I thought this house was just stone, wood, and security gates. I thought it was just a fortress to keep the world away."
He turned to look at Annie.
"You brought life back into this place, Annie," Alexander said softly. "You made it a home."
Annie smiled, resting her head against his broad shoulder. "We made it a home, Alexander."
Alexander reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small leather case. He opened it, revealing an official legal document stamped with the seal of the North Carolina Family Court.
Annie frowned lightheartedly. "More legal contracts? I thought we agreed no work after 8:00 PM."
"Read the title," Alexander said gently.
Annie took the paper and held it up to the warm light of the terrace lanterns. Her eyes scanned the bold lettering at the top:
PETITION FOR ADULT ADOPTION AND DESIGNATION OF HEIR.
Annie froze. She looked at the signature line at the bottom, where Alexander Graves had already signed his name in dark black ink.
"Alexander..." she breathed, her voice trembling as tears flooded her eyes. "Is this..."
"I have no children, Annie," Alexander said, his voice thick with emotion, his eyes completely unarmored. "And I have never met anyone in my life whom I respect, admire, and love more than you. You don't have to sign it if you don't want to, but... I would be the proudest father in the world if you would accept my name."
Annie looked at the paper, then looked at the man who had pulled her out of the shadows, defended her dignity, and given her a future beyond her wildest dreams.
"I don't need your money, Alexander," she wept softly, pulling him into a tight, desperate embrace. "I just wanted a father."
"You have one," Alexander whispered, holding his daughter tightly as the stars shone brightly over the Graves Estate. "Forever."

Inside the grand house, music played, laughter echoed through the warm, lit hallways, and the faint, rhythmic click of a broken leg was heard no more.
The master of the house had returned—and he had finally found his family.
