Chương 6 - I WALKED INTO HIS MEETING WITH HIS ENEMY

The shareholders’ meeting was held in the resort’s grand ballroom — the same room where, weeks earlier, I’d stood beside Ethan accepting champagne toasts for a future I never chose.
This time I walked in beside Damien Moretti, and the room went so silent I could hear the ocean through the windows.
My father was mid-speech at the podium, something about growth projections, about the “historic partnership” between Bennett Holdings and Cross Maritime.
Ethan sat in the front row.
I watched the exact moment he saw me walk in beside Damien — the color draining out of his face like water down a drain.
Damien didn’t say a word.
He nodded to one of his people — the kind who looked like an accountant and turned out to be exactly that — and a screen behind my father lit up.
Cross Maritime’s shell company registrations.
The wire transfers.
The pension accounts, drained and rerouted, disguised as investments that never existed.
My father’s voice cracked mid-sentence.
“This is a fabrication. A smear campaign by a known criminal organization trying to—”
“I built the timeline myself,” I said.
My voice carried further than I expected.
“Using documents from your own archive. My own research. Nobody fabricated anything, Dad. You did this. I just found it.”
“Isabella.” His voice shifted, pleading now, performing for the room the way he’d performed my entire engagement. “This is your family. Whatever you think you understand, you don’t have the full picture—”
“I have the full picture,” I said. “I’ve had fifteen years of the full picture, actually. You just made sure I couldn’t see it.”
I looked at Ethan.
He wouldn’t meet my eyes.
His hand was already on his phone, calculating an exit that didn’t exist anymore.
“Your family,” I said, to the room, to the shareholders, to the reporters Priya had quietly tipped off that morning, to my father frozen at the podium of the empire he’d built on stolen trust, “taught me that love was something you earned through obedience. I spent twenty-eight years trying to earn it.”

My voice didn’t shake.
“I’m done.”
