Chapter 3 - The Courtroom Shock And The Trap

There was another thing he still believed.

That because he was Emily’s husband, the house belonged partly to him.

At the hearing, Maya asked him one simple question.

“What did you personally contribute toward purchasing the residence?”

Daniel straightened his tie.

“I’m her husband. Obviously, it’s marital property.”

Maya calmly placed a certified deed on the table.

The house had been purchased three months before Emily married Daniel.

The money came from inheritance funds that had remained separate.

And Daniel’s name appeared nowhere on the deed.

His attorney immediately stopped smiling.

The judge extended Emily’s protective order.

Then Maya served Daniel with notice that Emily was filing for divorce.

She was also requesting exclusive possession of the property and restitution for any money he had diverted.

Daniel stared at Emily as though she were the one betraying him.

Outside the courtroom, he stepped close.

“You think a piece of paper can stop me?”

A deputy immediately moved between them.

Daniel backed away.

Then his confidence returned.

“Fine. I’ll come collect my things tonight.”

What Daniel didn’t know was that the police already had another plan.
