PART 2: THE DOCUMENT THAT SHOOK THE EMPIRE

The lobby remained silent long after Audrey’s final words.

Even the waterfall behind the reception desk seemed quieter.

Trevor stood frozen.

The board members stared at the folders.

Employees watched from balconies above.

And Sienna Mercer felt something she had not experienced in years.

Fear.

Not because of Audrey.

Not because of the twins.

But because she recognized the expression on Trevor’s face.

He was no longer looking at her like she was the future.

He was looking at Audrey like she was the past he could never replace.

And that terrified her.

Across the lobby, Audrey calmly opened the final folder.

The thick one.

The one nobody had seen yet.

The one Trevor had forgotten existed.

She handed it to Richard Holloway.

“Read page seven.”

Richard adjusted his glasses.

The elderly board member flipped through the pages.

Then stopped.

His eyebrows rose.

A moment later, all color drained from his face.

“My God.”

Another board member leaned closer.

“What?”

Richard handed him the document.

The second man read it.

Then looked up in shock.

The reaction spread from person to person like a wave.

Trevor’s stomach tightened.

“What is it?”

Nobody answered immediately.

Finally Richard looked directly at him.

“Trevor... did you seriously forget this existed?”

Trevor stepped forward.

“What are you talking about?”

Richard held up the contract.

“The Founder Protection Clause.”

The words hit Trevor like a slap.

For a brief second, he remembered.

A late-night meeting.

A cheap conference table.

A struggling startup.

A promise.

Back when Audrey had invested everything she inherited from her grandmother into Cross Meridian.

Back when nobody else believed in him.

Back when failure was more likely than success.

Audrey had agreed to risk everything.

But only under one condition.

A condition Trevor happily accepted because he never imagined the company would become worth billions.

Now that forgotten clause had returned.

And it was about to change everything.

Richard read aloud.

“In the event of marital dissolution, abandonment, or removal of a founding partner through personal misconduct, the non-offending founder retains controlling voting rights over all jointly established assets.”

The room became completely silent.

Trevor felt his heartbeat stop.

Then accelerate.

“No.”

Richard nodded slowly.

“Yes.”

The implications were staggering.

Audrey didn't simply own half the company.

She controlled voting authority.

Major decisions.

Board influence.

Executive leadership.

Everything.

Cross Meridian was still Trevor’s company on paper.

But in reality?

Audrey could remove him.

Today.

Right now.

The realization hit everyone simultaneously.

Executives exchanged nervous glances.

Lawyers began whispering.

Investors started checking their phones.

Trevor stared at Audrey.

“You’re taking the company?”

Audrey looked almost disappointed.

“You still don’t understand.”

“What?”

“I never wanted your company.”

“Then why are you here?”

Audrey looked down at the twins.

Then back at him.

“Because actions have consequences.”

The words landed harder than any legal threat.

Because they were true.

She wasn't seeking revenge.

She was demanding accountability.

There was a difference.

A very important difference.

Before Trevor could answer, another voice interrupted.

Sienna.

“This is ridiculous.”

Every head turned.

She stepped forward confidently.

At least she tried to look confident.

But her smile appeared strained.

“This woman disappeared for almost a year and suddenly shows up demanding control of a billion-dollar company?”

The accusation echoed through the lobby.

Audrey didn’t react.

Instead, one of the board members answered.

“Actually, Ms. Mercer, she owns it.”

Sienna blinked.

“What?”

“She always did.”

The model’s face tightened.

“No.”

Richard nodded.

“Yes.”

For the first time since arriving, Sienna looked genuinely rattled.

Because this story was not unfolding the way she expected.

At all.

She had imagined Audrey broken.

Forgotten.

Gone.

Instead Audrey had returned stronger than ever.

And carrying heirs.

Real heirs.

Children.

Legacy.

Everything Sienna could never compete with.

Trevor remained silent.

His eyes kept drifting toward Henry and Miles.

Toward the sons he had never held.

Never fed.

Never comforted.

Never known.

The weight of that reality was beginning to crush him.

Then another bomb exploded.

One of the company attorneys cleared his throat.

“There’s something else.”

Richard looked annoyed.

“What now?”

The attorney opened another file.

“Several institutional investors have already been informed about the founder clause.”

The room tensed.

“How?”

The attorney hesitated.

Then looked at Audrey.

“She informed them last week.”

A ripple moved through the crowd.

Trevor stared at Audrey.

“You planned this.”

“Of course I did.”

“For how long?”

She smiled faintly.

“For nine months.”

The answer stunned him.

Nine months.

While he vacationed in Monaco.

While he attended galas with Sienna.

While magazines celebrated their romance.

Audrey had been preparing.

Patiently.

Carefully.

Strategically.

Not out of revenge.

Out of responsibility.

Because she had two sons to protect.

And unlike Trevor, she understood that protecting children required planning.

Suddenly one of the receptionists gasped.

Everyone turned.

Several phones were lighting up simultaneously.

Notifications.

News alerts.

Messages.

Richard checked his phone first.

Then sighed heavily.

“They found out.”

Trevor’s blood ran cold.

“Who?”

“The press.”

Within seconds the story exploded online.

Billionaire CEO's Secret Twins.

Founder’s Ex-Wife Owns Half the Company.

Corporate Succession Crisis.

Questions erupted everywhere.

Reporters began gathering outside the building.

News vans appeared.

Social media exploded.

Cross Meridian stock immediately started fluctuating.

Not crashing.

Not yet.

But uncertainty terrified markets.

And uncertainty had just arrived in enormous quantities.

Sienna looked horrified.

Because she understood headlines.

She lived on headlines.

And she knew exactly what tomorrow’s front page would look like.

It wouldn’t feature her latest fashion campaign.

It would feature Audrey.

The woman she publicly mocked.

The woman who now controlled the narrative.

For the first time, Sienna realized she had picked the wrong side.

And she panicked.

The panic became obvious an hour later.

Because while the board met privately upstairs, Sienna made a mistake.

A massive mistake.

She called a reporter.

Unfortunately for her, she didn’t realize someone was recording.

By evening, audio leaked online.

The recording was devastating.

Sienna mocking the twins.

Calling Audrey manipulative.

Referring to the children as “inheritance insurance.”

The backlash was immediate.

Brutal.

Fashion brands distanced themselves.

Sponsors withdrew partnerships.

Luxury campaigns paused contracts.

Within twenty-four hours, Sienna’s carefully built public image began collapsing.

And Trevor watched it happen.

Without lifting a finger.

Because for the first time, he had bigger problems.

Much bigger.

Late that evening, after the board meeting ended, Trevor found Audrey alone in a conference room overlooking Minneapolis.

The city lights shimmered below.

The twins slept peacefully nearby.

For several moments neither spoke.

Finally Trevor broke the silence.

“Do they know me?”

Audrey looked at him.

“No.”

The answer hurt.

He deserved that pain.

But it hurt anyway.

Trevor lowered his eyes.

“What happens now?”

Audrey studied him carefully.

For years she had loved this man.

Built with him.

Believed in him.

Lost him.

And now she saw something unfamiliar.

Humility.

Real humility.

The kind that only appears after a person loses something irreplaceable.

“You tell me.”

Trevor looked toward the sleeping boys.

His sons.

His future.

His greatest failure.

And perhaps, if he was willing to fight for it...

His last chance.

But neither Trevor nor Audrey knew that an even bigger revelation was coming.

Because buried deep within Cross Meridian’s financial history was a secret capable of destroying not only Trevor’s reputation—

May you like

but also exposing the one betrayal that had truly ended their marriage.

And when that truth emerged, someone would lose far more than a company.
