My Ex Used My Fortune to Marry His Mistress, but Their Wedding Vows Uncovered the Secret That Finally Gave Me Back My Name, Freedom, and Future on My Own Terms

Chapter 2
Not anymore.
“Open it.”
Marcus finally turned to page fourteen.
His face changed.
“What is this?”
“A loan agreement,” Celeste replied.
Marcus read faster.
Then slower.
Then he looked at Bianca.
“You said this money was yours.”
Bianca said nothing.
“You told me you had four million dollars.”
Still nothing.
Celeste answered for her.
“She had access to company accounts. That isn’t the same as owning the money.”
Marcus’s jaw tightened.
Rebecca took the folder from him and studied the page.
Then she looked at me.
“Elena, this agreement lists collateral.”
“What collateral?”
Rebecca hesitated.
“Your properties.”
The room seemed to tilt.
“My properties?”
Marcus interrupted.
“That’s impossible.”
Rebecca turned the document toward him.
“Your signature is here.”
Marcus stared at it.
“I signed what Bianca gave me.”
Bianca finally exploded.
“You knew exactly what you were signing!”
Marcus spun toward her.
“You told me Elena’s assets would transfer after the divorce settlement!”
“And you told me you controlled her trusts!”
Their voices echoed through the ballroom.
There it was.
Not romance.
Not destiny.
Not the beautiful love story they had sold to everyone around them.
A business arrangement wrapped in wedding flowers.
Marcus had wanted my assets.
Bianca had wanted access to them.
And somewhere along the way, each had apparently convinced the other that the theft was already complete.
I should have felt satisfaction.
Instead, I felt something stranger.
Relief.
For months, I had asked myself how Marcus could throw away fourteen years together.
Standing there, I finally understood.
He hadn’t thrown away something he valued.
He had simply revealed what he valued.
And that distinction set me free.
One of the investigators approached Rebecca.
“We need the original documents.”
Celeste nodded.
“My attorney has them.”
Bianca turned toward her sister.
“You came here to destroy me?”
“No,” Celeste said quietly. “I came here because you used Dad’s company, my identity, and someone else’s marriage as tools. I spent eight months trying to get you to explain those transfers.”
Bianca’s expression changed.
For a second, the arrogance disappeared.
“You always had everything.”
Celeste looked almost sad.
“That was never a reason to take what belonged to someone else.”
Marcus stepped backward.
Then his eyes found me.
“Elena.”
I knew that tone.
The soft one.
The one he used when anger stopped working.
“Can we talk privately?”
“No.”
“Please.”
“There’s nothing private left between us.”
He glanced at the guests.
“This has gotten out of control.”
I almost smiled.
“No, Marcus. For the first time, it’s completely out of your control.”
He lowered his voice.
“I made mistakes.”
Mistakes.
Such a small word.
I remembered sitting alone in our kitchen after discovering the first suspicious transfer.
I remembered asking him whether he knew anything about it.
He had kissed my forehead and told me I worked too hard.
Then he suggested I take a vacation.
Three days later, another $190,000 disappeared.
A mistake happens once.
A plan leaves spreadsheets.
May you like
I looked directly at him.
“You practiced my signature.”
