Chapter 3 - Unveiling the Deception
Inside were printed emails, screenshots, and documents from a private real-estate company. Paulina explained that she still had access to an administrative account connected to the family business. She had checked it after seeing my video.
The emails were about my house. A buyer wanted it privately. There were references to a quick transaction, a pending signature, and getting original documents to “validate information.” Ernesto’s name appeared repeatedly. So did Víctor’s. And twice, Alejandro’s email address was included.
Then I read one sentence that made the room tilt.
If Mariana sees the documents before everything is prepared, she will stop the transaction. Do not contact her directly.
I looked at my husband.
“Alejandro. Explain this.”
He rubbed his face.
“I didn’t know they were planning to enter the house.”
“But you knew they wanted my documents.”
“It was just supposed to be for a proposal.”
“With my signature copied?”
He said nothing.
Paulina pulled out another page.
“There’s more.”
It was a message from Ernesto.
Once we have the original documents, we can move forward. Graciela says Mariana keeps the passports, deeds, and jewelry in the closet. If valuables disappear too, everyone will assume it was a normal burglary.
Graciela dropped into a chair.
“I never said that.”
“It’s written right here,” Paulina replied.
Alejandro looked at me. His eyes were red.
“Mariana, I got into debt. The investment failed. Mom loaned me money. Ernesto said he could fix it.”
“By secretly selling our home?”
“Our home.”

Camila was upstairs getting ready for school. I had told her not to come downstairs until Paulina called her. I was grateful she wasn’t hearing most of this.
