PART 3: The Letters My Daughters Never Sent: A Father's Journey Back to His Family. 6-028 - Puretale

Part 1

Forty-five minutes after pretending to leave Los Angeles for four days, I was secretly back inside my Bel-Air estate, watching hidden security cameras because I suspected my housekeeper was betraying my family. Instead, I watched my six-year-old daughter recoil from my fiancée’s touch, and the truth nearly brought me to my knees. The woman I planned to marry wasn’t protecting my children from Marisol. Marisol had been protecting them from her.

My name is Alexander Vance. In Los Angeles, people knew me as the head of one of the city’s most feared crime families, a man surrounded by armed security and powerful connections.

Yet inside my own home, I had failed to see what was happening to my daughters.

That morning, I kissed nine-year-old Valeria and six-year-old Sofia goodbye. “Four days,” I promised, pretending I had business in Toronto.

Sofia squeezed my hand. “Do you really have to go again, Daddy?”

The question hurt, but I forced a smile and left. Forty-five minutes later, Hector, my security chief, slipped me back through a hidden service entrance.

The entire trip was fake.

My fiancée, Chloe, had planted the suspicion days earlier. She claimed jewelry, cash, and perfume had disappeared, then suggested Marisol, our housekeeper of five years, was responsible.

“She’s turning the girls against you,” Chloe had whispered. “You trust her too much.”

Marisol had helped care for my daughters after their mother died. Until Chloe spoke, I’d seen their attachment to her as love, but suspicion poisoned everything.

Months earlier, I had installed more than thirty concealed security cameras throughout the estate’s common areas. Hector and I entered the monitoring room behind the garage, locked the door, and watched.

For fifteen minutes, nothing happened.

Marisol cleaned the kitchen while my daughters finished breakfast. I was almost embarrassed enough to leave when Chloe entered the living room.

Her face changed instantly.

Valeria was reading near the fireplace while Sofia hugged the worn stuffed rabbit her mother had given her before she died. Chloe marched toward them, heels striking the floor like gunshots.

“How many times have I told you brats not to lounge around in here?”

Both girls jumped.

That reaction froze my blood.

They weren’t surprised.

They were accustomed to it.

Chloe ripped Sofia’s rabbit from her hands and threw it onto a shelf beyond her reach. “When your father isn’t here, what I say goes.”

Sofia’s lip trembled as Valeria quietly moved in front of her younger sister.

Then Marisol entered.

She calmly placed herself between Chloe and my children. “Miss Chloe, they were only reading while waiting for their tutor.”

“Did I ask you?”

“No, ma’am.”

Chloe stepped closer. “Then remember your place. You’re hired help. You’re not their mother. You’re nobody in this house.”

My fists tightened.

On-screen, my daughters reached for each other’s hands without even looking.

That small gesture told me everything.

This had happened before.

While I’d been traveling, conducting meetings, and maintaining an empire powerful enough to make grown men fear my name, my daughters had been learning how to survive inside their own home.

“Upstairs,” Chloe ordered. “Get out of my sight.”

Sofia stared at the shelf. “Please... I want my bunny.”

“Then learn to obey.”

“Please don’t be mean to Valeria.”

Chloe suddenly grabbed Sofia’s wrist.

Marisol moved instantly.

She caught Chloe’s forearm and forced her hand away from my daughter.

“Do not touch her.”

I shot out of my chair.

Hector looked at me, waiting for an order, but I couldn’t speak.

Then Chloe leaned close to Marisol and said something that made every drop of blood in my body turn cold.

Something about my daughters.
