Chapter 1

My maid’s three-year-old daughter grabbed my hand and led me to a bedroom, where I overheard my future wife threatening to destroy her mother’s life and make the little girl disappear. But the most horrifying revelation wasn't the threat itself. It was discovering that my helpless mother had been witnessing this cruelty for three months, right under my roof.

“Shh, Uncle Lorenzo. Don't talk. Follow me.”

Little Mia pulled me down the mansion’s hallway, her tiny fingers gripping mine with surprising determination.

I was Lorenzo Duca, a man feared throughout the city. Yet that afternoon, a trembling child in a red skirt was leading me toward something even I wasn't prepared to face.

She stopped outside my mother Isabella’s bedroom and pointed toward the partially open door.

Inside, my fiancée, Vivien Russo, stood over Elena, Mia’s mother, who was clutching a folded towel against her chest.

“You WILL tell Lorenzo his mother approves of our marriage,” Vivien snapped. “Tell him she cried tears of happiness. Do you understand?”

Elena’s voice trembled. “Please, Miss Vivien. I can't lie to him.”

Vivien stepped closer.

“Then you'll be fired by Sunday. No references. No job. No way to feed that precious daughter of yours.”

My jaw tightened, but I remained silent.

Then Vivien smiled.

“And speaking of your daughter... children have accidents, Elena. Gates get left open. Security cameras mysteriously stop working.”

Elena went pale.

“Please! She's only three!”

“Then learn to obey.”

Beside them, my mother sat helplessly in her wheelchair, her trembling fingers striking the wooden armrest.

Vivien didn't even glance at her.

I wanted to tear that door off its hinges.

Instead, I swallowed my fury.

I needed to know how deep this betrayal went.

I carried Mia into my study and gently placed her on my desk.

“Sweetheart, how long has Vivien been hurting your mommy?”

She raised three little fingers.

“Three days?”

She shook her head.

“Three weeks?”

Another shake.

“Three months?”

She nodded and buried her face against my chest.

For three months, that monster had terrorized my household while smiling across my dinner table.

I reached for the telephone.

“Rocco. My study. Immediately.”

When my most trusted man arrived, I gave him one order.

“Investigate everyone who's entered this estate in the last four months. Employees, contractors, bank accounts. Everything. And nobody hears a word.”

Rocco nodded and disappeared.

Minutes later, Vivien greeted me downstairs, wearing pale green silk and her sweetest smile.

“Darling! You look exhausted. Difficult meeting?”

I kissed her hand.

“Nothing I couldn't handle.”

She laughed, completely unaware that I knew her secret.

Then my phone vibrated.

A message from Rocco appeared.

**“Boss, I've found something. It's about Vivien... and your mother. You need to see this before tonight.”**

I looked up at the woman planning to become my wife.

And for the first time, I wondered whether the threats I'd overheard were only the beginning.
