I thought Daniela was recording the humiliation to defend me.
I was wrong.
When everyone started arguing, she stepped forward and placed her phone on the table.
She said she had recorded the entire conversation because she wanted “the truth to finally come out.”
But the recording wasn’t the only thing she had.
Daniela reached into her purse and pulled out an envelope she said she found hidden among her mother’s documents.
Teresa immediately tried to take it from her.
That was when I realized the cake incident was never really about my salary.
It was about something much bigger inside that family.
