Three days later, the fallout began.

Marcus’s phone rang nonstop.

Private numbers.

Lawyers.

Family friends.

Even his father.

“You’ve made a mistake,” his father said over the phone. “You don’t walk away from legacy.”

Marcus stood in the kitchen, watching Maya laugh softly as Lily—finally healthy—colored at the table.

“No,” Marcus replied. “I walked away from control.”

There was a pause.

Then came the ultimatum.

“If you don’t reverse this, you’re out. Completely.”

Marcus didn’t hesitate.

“I already am.”
