Chapter 8 - The Lily Foundation

"Lily got very sick when she was four years old," Sarah explained, her voice barely a whisper in the wind.

"The medical bills piled up so fast that we lost our apartment, then our car, and then everything else."

Julian listened in pure, heartbreaking silence.

"She passed away in a free clinic because I couldn't afford the specialist she needed," Sarah cried.

"After that, I just gave up on the world."

"I walked until I couldn't walk anymore, and I ended up in that ravine behind your beautiful house."

Julian felt a massive lump forming in his throat.

"When I heard your little girls crying in the night, it sounded exactly like Lily," she sobbed.

"I couldn't save my own baby, but I promised God I would save yours."

Julian reached out and gently took her rough, trembling hand in his own.

"You did save them, Sarah," Julian promised her fiercely.

"And now, it is my turn to save you."

The next morning, Julian made a series of massive phone calls to his financial advisors.

He purchased the massive empty building downtown and hired a massive construction crew.

He was turning it into the "Lily Foundation," a state-of-the-art free pediatric clinic and housing shelter for struggling mothers.

When he showed the blueprints to Sarah, she collapsed into his arms, weeping with pure joy.

For the first time in years, Julian wrapped his arms around a woman and felt truly alive.
