Chapter 6 - Consequences and Reconnection

Meanwhile, Jason faced the consequences of what he had done.

The real estate company reported him for forgery and misuse of client funds.

Chloe cooperated with investigators to protect herself and confirmed that Jason had used client money to pay for the apartment where they met.

Jason didn’t go directly to prison, but he lost his professional license, signed a restitution agreement, and became effectively blacklisted by several firms.

Eventually, he took a job at an electronics store and rented a room on the outskirts of Mesa.

Diane tried to return when she discovered Lily no longer carried the Reynolds surname.

She traveled to the gates of a private lakefront estate near Lake Tahoe, where Allison had finally agreed to reconcile with her father.

Richard Langford received his daughter without criticism.

He didn’t ask why she had stayed away so long.

He simply wrapped his arms around her as if he had been holding his breath for 5 years.

“You came home,” he whispered.

One morning, Diane appeared at the entrance carrying a cheap bag of strawberry candy and wearing tears that Allison didn’t believe.

“I only want to see my granddaughter.”

Lily immediately stepped behind Allison’s dress.

“Grandma laughed when Daddy pushed Mommy into my cake,” Lily said. “She didn’t help us.”

Diane went pale.

“Sweetheart, I didn’t understand what was happening.”

“Yes, you did,” Allison said calmly. “Everyone understood.”

The gates slowly closed.

There were no screams.
