Chapter 7

That night, after everyone had gone, Daniel and I sat together on the back porch. The twins were sleeping upstairs. He reached toward my hand.
This time, I allowed him to hold it.
“Did the DNA test save us?” he asked.
I glanced through the window at the hallway light glowing beside the nursery.
“No,” I said.
“It only revealed the truth.”
He nodded.
Everything else was ours to rebuild.
My children never needed a report to prove they belonged.
