Chapter 3

At 4:45 p.m.—fifteen minutes before Arthur’s deadline—I walked into the executive boardroom on the top floor of Vance Enterprises.
Arthur sat at the head of the long mahogany table, immaculate in a tailored charcoal suit. Luca sat beside him, his right hand tightly bound in a cast and sling. Their corporate attorney stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, holding a pen.
Arthur didn’t even look up from his tablet. “I assume you brought the signed postnup.”
“I brought something much better,” I said, pulling out a chair and sitting down flat across from them.
Luca sneered, adjusting his sling. “You’re out of options, Jessi. The police report for assault is drafted. Sign the paper, or you go to prison.”
I didn’t answer Luca. Instead, I opened my briefcase, pulled out a thick manila binder, and slid it directly across the polished wood to Arthur.
Arthur frowned, casually opening the cover.
As his eyes scanned the first page—a certified forensic audit detailing the $45 million in diverted offshore accounts—his arrogant expression shattered into absolute horror.
He flipped frantically to the second page: the forged collateral signatures on Patricia’s trust.
The third page: time-stamped wire routing slips.
The fourth page: the formal fraud notification I had pre-drafted for the lead underwriting bank on their $200 million loan.
“Where… where did you get this?” Arthur stammered, his face draining of every drop of color.
“I’m a senior forensic financial investigator, Arthur,” I said, leaning back comfortably. “You thought you married your son off to a quiet, compliant wife. You actually invited an auditor into your house.”
Luca’s jaw dropped. “Dad… what is she talking about?”
“Shut up, Luca!” Arthur roared, slamming his hands against the table. He turned his terrifying, bloodshot eyes on me. “If you release this, you ruin Vance Enterprises! You ruin your husband! You’ll get nothing!”
“I don’t want your money, Arthur,” I replied, my voice dropping into a razor-sharp whisper. “I want my mother-in-law’s freedom.”
I pulled a second document from my bag and set it on the table.
“This is a full, non-negotiable exit agreement,” I stated. “1. Arthur surrenders full, unencumbered control of Patricia’s $30 million inheritance trust back to her immediately.
2. Arthur agrees to an uncontested divorce with Patricia, surrendering the penthouse and paying $50,000 a month in lifelong spousal support.
3. Luca signs a clean, uncontested divorce from me with zero financial claims.
4. You both sign an irrevocable confession of domestic abuse, which will sit in my attorney’s vault. If either of you ever comes within 500 feet of Patricia or me again, those files go straight to the District Attorney and the banking regulators.”
Luca jumped out of his chair, yelling through his pain. “You’re blackmailing us!”
“I’m giving you a choice,” I corrected him coldly. “Sign the papers now, or I press the send button on this laptop and watch federal marshals arrest you both before dinner.”
Arthur stared at the forensic binder, then at the pen in his lawyer’s hand. For thirty-two years, he had ruled his family through terror and violence. Now, faced with absolute ruin, he was nothing more than a coward in an expensive suit.

His hands shook as he took the pen.
Within ten minutes, every signature was executed.
