Chapter 10
They met in Juliana’s office.
Nobody hugged.
Nobody pretended this was reconciliation.
Sienna looked smaller somehow—stripped of designer clothes and confident smirks, wearing jeans and an old sweater Elena recognized from college.
She placed her phone on the conference table.
Daniel played the first recording.
Leonard’s voice filled the room, cultured and cold.
If Elena stays close to Marcus, she’ll eventually uncover the missing money. We need her gone.
Another recording.
Make the marriage impossible to repair. I don’t care how.
Elena stared at her sister. “Did Leonard order you to sleep with Marcus?”
Sienna’s face crumpled. “No.”
Elena stopped breathing.
“He told me to keep Marcus drinking. Make him angry. Get photographs.”
“Then why did you sleep with him?”
Sienna stared at the table. “Because I met him first.”
“What?”
“Eight years ago. A charity gala. I flirted with him. He barely noticed me. Then six months later, you brought him home.”
Elena looked at her sister like she was seeing a stranger.
“You destroyed my marriage because a man didn’t remember rejecting you?”
Sienna’s voice broke. “I hated that everyone always chose you. Mom trusted you. Marcus chose you. You were always the strong one, the smart one, the one everyone wanted.”
Elena’s eyes filled with tears. “So you wanted to watch me fail?”
“I wanted you to know what it felt like to not be chosen.”
Elena stood. “You didn’t make me like you.”
Sienna looked up.
“You made sure I finally saw you clearly.”
For the first time in her life, Sienna’s tears didn’t make Elena want to rescue her.
But the recordings changed everything.
