Three days later, Marcus Valemont walked into an emergency board meeting looking like a defeated man.
It was the performance of his life.
“I’m stepping down from executive control,” he announced.
Directors exchanged shocked glances.
Leonard remained carefully neutral.
“Mr. Shaw will serve as acting CEO until this situation resolves.”
Leonard bowed his head modestly. “I’ll protect what your father built.”
Marcus looked directly at him. “I know you will.”
Leonard believed him.
That was his fatal mistake.
Within twenty-four hours, Leonard finalized the sale of Valemont’s two most valuable assets to North Bridge—at prices so far below market value that anyone paying attention would have questioned it.
But he thought no one was watching.
He didn’t know investigators were documenting every signature.
He didn’t know lenders had been quietly alerted.
He didn’t know Daniel had traced North Bridge’s ownership.
He didn’t know Sienna had recorded enough conversations to bury him.
Then Leonard deployed his final weapon.
Hotel security footage appeared online—Marcus and Sienna entering a suite, leaving hours apart.
Elena watched from her obstetrician’s waiting room.
She’d already known the truth.
Knowing didn’t make seeing it easier.
Her husband. Her sister. Walking toward the room where everything ended.
Elena rushed to the restroom and vomited.
That afternoon, reporters surrounded Marcus outside Valemont Tower.
“Was the affair fabricated?”
His attorney murmured, “Don’t answer.”
Marcus stopped and faced the cameras. “No.”
The crowd went silent.
“The conspiracy was real,” he said. “My betrayal was also real.”
“Did your sister-in-law trap you?”
“She manipulated the situation. But I still made the choice.”
Another reporter: “Does your wife forgive you?”
Marcus’s jaw tightened. “Elena doesn’t owe me forgiveness.”
Watching from the clinic, Elena began crying—not because she’d forgiven him, but because he’d finally stopped making excuses.
