Chapter 15 - THE END OF THE SHADOWS

Viktor Vance’s weapon clattered loudly against the concrete floor.

Below, Dante’s tactical team swarmed through the side doors, disarming the remaining Viper operatives in less than thirty seconds without a single shot fired.

Dante shoved Viktor forward down the metal stairs, sending him crashing onto the floor at my feet.

“It’s over, Viktor,” Dante said, walking down the steps with slow, measured strides. “Your syndicate is dismantled. Your accounts are frozen. And you are standing in my city.”

Viktor spat a glob of blood onto the concrete, looking up at me with venomous eyes.

“You think you won, Moretti? There’s always another vulture waiting in the wings.”

“Let them come,” Dante said coldly, stepping between Viktor and me. “I own the sky, the docks, and the streets now. And nobody touches my family.”

Federal agents swarmed the warehouse moments later, snapping heavy steel cuffs around Viktor Vance and hauling him away toward the waiting transport vans.

The air in the warehouse finally cleared of gunpowder and smoke.

Dante turned around, holstering his weapon, and walked straight toward me.

He pulled me into his arms, burying his face in my hair, his broad shoulders trembling slightly with the sudden release of adrenaline.

“Are you alright?” he murmured against my ear.

“I’m never going back to serving champagne to monsters,” I whispered, smiling as I wrapped my arms around his neck.

“Good,” Dante replied, pulling back to look into my eyes with a fierce, unconditional devotion. “Because from now on, you rule the empire by my side.”

Six months later, the Lake Geneva estate was filled with the sound of genuine laughter, sunlight, and peace.

My mother was healthy, smiling on the garden veranda, tending to her crossword puzzles without a single worry in the world.

And in the sprawling study of the Moretti mansion, the framed portrait of my father hung proudly above the fireplace, watching over us.

The past was buried.

The enemies were gone.
