Chapter 2: The Unlikely Witness

The heavy silence that followed the bride’s shocking confession was shattered by a small, determined voice. The young girl wiped away her own tears, her jaw setting with a newfound resolve. "No. That’s not everything."

Everyone turned toward her, the sea of bewildered guests parting slightly to give her space. The groom, his eyes still red and searching for answers in the wreckage of his wedding day, knelt beside her to meet her at eye level. "Sweetheart…" he began, his voice softening remarkably despite the chaos swirling around them. "How did you get this video?"

The little girl took a deep, shaky breath, clutching her hands together. "My mom cleans the bridal suites for the hotel," she explained, her voice gaining strength with every word. "She forgot her phone in there while she was working earlier. I went upstairs to bring it back to her. When I opened the door… I saw her." She pointed a trembling finger at the bride, whose face was now buried deep in her hands.

The bride closed her eyes tightly, utterly ashamed, unable to meet the piercing gazes of her family and friends. "I begged her not to tell anyone," the bride whispered, her voice barely audible over the angry murmurs of the crowd.

The little girl nodded solemnly. "She offered me money. A lot of money. But I got scared, and I ran away. Then I figured out how to check the security feed because my uncle works in the control room."

The guests stood completely speechless, absorbing the magnitude of the bride's betrayal and the child's immense bravery. In the background, an elderly woman—the groom's grandmother—quietly pulled out her phone and called emergency services, her voice steady and resolute as she explained the situation.

Moments later, the heavy oak doors of the ballroom swung open, and hotel security entered the room, their expressions deadly serious. The head of security immediately approached the groom and requested the phone. He carefully reviewed the recording, his brow furrowing as he watched the damning footage. Then, he radioed his team to check the ballroom’s own surveillance system to track the movement of the glasses. It confirmed everything. The poisoned glass had been purposefully placed exactly where the groom always stood during the toasts.

Within minutes, the distant wail of sirens grew louder until police officers strode into the ballroom. The lead detective, a no-nonsense woman with a sharp gaze, carefully collected the tainted champagne flute using gloved hands, sliding it safely into an evidence bag. Meanwhile, a forensic technician was dispatched upstairs, where they successfully located and sealed the small glass vial discarded inside the bridal suite's wastebasket. The net was closing in rapidly.

The bride looked at the groom one last time, her elaborate makeup ruined by tears. "I’m sorry," she pleaded, reaching out. "I never wanted this."

He slowly shook his head, taking a deliberate step back. "You didn't just betray me. You destroyed every promise we made."
