Chapter 3

The Silver Swans took their first positions.

For the first few seconds, the young dancers still smiled.

But then something happened that left not only Dylan, but the judges and the entire audience completely shocked 😱😳

The Silver Swans did not rush.

Arthur stood in the front, Clara beside him, and the others formed a clean line behind them.

At first, the audience was still laughing.

Then Clara lifted her arms.

Her elbows were soft, her shoulders low, her back perfectly straight.

A few people stopped laughing.

Arthur took one slow step forward, then another. His cane was nowhere in his hand now. His movements were controlled, elegant, and steady.

Then the music became faster.

The elderly group moved together.

Not like people trying to remember choreography.

Like people who had lived inside music their entire lives.

Clara turned first.

One clean turn.

Then another.

Then a third.

The young dancers at the side of the stage stopped smiling.

One grandmother with thick glasses lifted her leg higher than anyone expected. A grandfather behind her moved into position and caught her hand exactly on beat.

The audience went quiet.

Dylan stared at them, confused.

“They practiced?” one of the young dancers whispered.

But it was more than practice.

The Silver Swans repeated the same difficult movements Fire Pulse had done only moments earlier. The sharp arms. The turns. The leg lifts. The fast footwork.

But then they added something the young team had not done.

Emotion.

Clara and Arthur moved toward each other slowly, their hands almost touching, as if they were telling a story only the two of them understood.

The music softened.

The whole group formed a circle, leaving one empty space in the middle.

Clara looked at that empty space.

Her lips trembled, but she did not cry.

Then all eight of them raised their pink ribbons toward it.

For Evelyn.

The hall was completely silent now.

No laughter.

No jokes.

No phones moving.

Even the judges leaned forward.

Then the music rose again, and The Silver Swans gave everything they had left.

They turned, stepped, lifted, bowed, and moved with such grace that nobody in the hall saw old bodies anymore.
