A full year after my return, Gwen completed her final round of cancer treatments. The oncologist officially confirmed that there was no remaining evidence of disease in her body.
On a bright morning, while standing in front of the bedroom mirror, she gently took off her scarf. A soft layer of dark, healthy hair was growing back across her scalp.
