The pathology results brought incredible news, revealing that the cancer had not spread to her surrounding tissues as originally feared. She still required chemotherapy sessions and routine monitoring, but her chances of a complete recovery were extremely high.
Gwen wept tears of profound relief when the oncologist delivered the good news.
The following months were undeniably grueling, filled with bouts of severe nausea, intense fatigue, restless nights, and difficult mornings when she felt too insecure to look in the mirror. I learned how to cook nutritious broths, manage complex medication schedules, and offer quiet comfort when words were not enough.
I sold the luxury truck that Paige had bought with my funds, using every penny to cover Gwen’s ongoing treatments and to purchase a cozy home in Kansas City, far away from the painful memories of the past.
I officially resigned from my job in Yellowknife and used my remaining savings to establish a local metal fabrication business alongside my former high school classmate, Wyatt Cooper. Although we earned less income than I made working in northern Canada, I was able to come home every single evening, share dinner with Gwen, and cherish her presence.
