“I personally saw that poor girl walking miles along the hot road because she lacked bus fare,” Mrs. Jenkins revealed to everyone. “I also saw her return home with her head completely shaved, and when I asked about it, Paige lied and said it was punishment for being lazy.”
The elaborate web of lies instantly collapsed right in front of the entire community.
On the fourth day, Margaret and Paige quietly packed their belongings and moved into a small rented room near the regional bus station. They took their personal clothes, personal identification, and their individual jewelry, as I had no desire to act with the same cruelty they had shown.
Their lavish lifestyles came to a sudden halt. Paige quickly discovered that Derek was far from the devoted partner he pretended to be, as he promptly canceled the wedding the moment he realized there would be no luxury house, private spa, or bank fortune attached to her name.
When Paige angrily accused him of being a gold digger, Derek retorted that she had fraudulently lied about her family’s wealth from the very beginning.
