Chapter 10 - The Empire Reborn
One year later.
The Grand Alcazar Hotel was still a sanctuary for the elite, but it was under entirely new management. Julian had fired the entire executive staff that had turned a blind eye to his wife's suffering.
Victor and Camila had been found guilty on multiple counts of corporate espionage, embezzlement, kidnapping, and attempted murder. They were serving thirty-year sentences in separate federal penitentiaries without the possibility of parole. The media had devoured the scandal, but Julian had strictly kept Elena and his daughter out of the public eye, protecting their privacy fiercely.
Julian stood on the balcony of his newly built estate in the Italian countryside, sipping his morning espresso. The sun was shining over the rolling vineyards.
He heard soft footsteps behind him. He turned to see Elena, looking breathtakingly beautiful in a flowing white sundress, completely healed from the trauma of her past. In her arms was little Isabella, a chubby-cheeked, bright-eyed one-year-old who already had her father’s intense gaze and her mother’s beautiful smile.
"She's looking for you," Elena smiled, handing the baby over to Julian.
Julian took his daughter, kissing her chubby cheek, making her giggle wildly. He wrapped his free arm around Elena's waist, pulling her flush against him.
"Have I told you today how much I love you?" Julian murmured, kissing the top of Elena's head.
"Only about five times," she teased, resting her head on his chest. "But I never get tired of hearing it."
Julian looked out over the vast estate. He still possessed his massive wealth, his companies, and his power. But none of it mattered compared to the two people in his arms. He had almost lost everything to a snake in the grass, but he had fought through hell to get his true life back.
