Chapter 4 - The Viper in the Nest

While Elena slept under the watch of Dr. Aris, Julian moved to his private study within the penthouse. He pulled out a secure, untraceable satellite phone he kept for emergencies. He bypassed his entire corporate security team and dialed a number he hadn't used in five years.

"Anton," Julian said when the line clicked open. "I need your team. Ghost protocol. No one in my company can know."

Anton was an independent contractor, a former special forces operative Julian had once saved from a corrupt legal prosecution. Anton was fiercely loyal only to Julian.

"Give me the targets, Boss."

"Victor Thorne. And Camila Vargas. I need full surveillance, financial records, everything. They engineered my wife's disappearance."

"Consider it done. Where are you?"

"The Grand Alcazar. But we can't stay here. Victor has men in the hotel."

"I'll have extraction team Alpha at the loading dock in twenty minutes. Armored transport."

Julian hung up and walked back into the living room, only to freeze. The heavy oak doors of the suite were slowly creeping open. Julian silently drew the sleek 9mm pistol he kept in the penthouse safe. He pressed himself against the wall.

A shadow fell across the marble floor. A man in a hotel maintenance uniform stepped inside, holding a suppressed firearm. He moved silently toward the bedroom where Elena was sleeping.

Julian didn't hesitate. He stepped out from the wall and brought the butt of his pistol down hard on the back of the assassin's skull. The man collapsed without a sound.

Julian quickly dragged the body into the walk-in closet and zip-tied his hands and feet. He checked the man's phone. A single text message glowed on the screen, sent from Victor:

Clean up the mess before Julian wakes up. Make it look like a tragic complication of pregnancy.

The rage that surged through Julian was blinding. They weren't waiting anymore. His discovery of Elena had accelerated their timeline.

Julian rushed into the bedroom. "Elena, wake up. We have to go. Now."
