Chapter 6 - Arrests and Public Backlash

The very next morning, I handed every single piece of evidence over to the Maricopa County Prosecutor’s Office. The lead investigators carefully cross-referenced the text message timestamps with the street video, the official medical report, the physical drag marks in the yard, and my mother’s false initial statement. Every single lie she had told was instantly crushed by concrete physical evidence.

Georgia had claimed that Kristin fled the property on the back of a motorcycle. However, the security camera footage proved the main gate remained locked the entire day. She then claimed the storage shed had not been opened in months, but the lock was brand new, and the physical store receipt was found inside Zachary’s coat pocket. She swore under oath that she had no idea my wife was inside, even though she wrote in the chat log to my brother, “Do not give her any water yet, and let her learn who really runs this house.”

The prosecutor’s office issued immediate arrest warrants for both of them. My brother and mother had fled to hide at an aunt’s house in the nearby town of Mesa. When the police tactical team arrived at the property, the two instantly turned on each other and started screaming accusations. Zachary shouted that Georgia was the one who locked the padlock, while my mother wept that my brother had forbidden her from opening it out of fear that I would notice the forced entry.

Both of them were handcuffed and taken into custody on the spot.

The disturbing news spread like wildfire throughout our entire neighborhood. For many years, my mother had proudly boasted to everyone that we were a respectable and loving family. Suddenly, neighbors who had overheard years of verbal abuse finally felt safe enough to step forward and speak to the authorities. One neighbor recalled hearing frantic banging noises on Tuesday afternoon, while another stated that he heard a woman calling for help during the night, though he assumed the sound was coming from further down the street because the storm was so loud.

However, not every relative took our side during the ordeal. Several family members called me repeatedly to preach that a person only gets one mother in this life, arguing that private family matters should never involve the law. One uncle even called to tell me that a real man would have broken the lock quietly, taken his wife to a private clinic, and made up a fake story to protect the family reputation.
