Three hours later...
The emergency department became painfully quiet.
Doctors fought for nearly forty minutes before finally stabilizing Hannah and her unborn baby.
When Ryan was finally allowed inside, she didn't look at him.
She stared only at the ceiling.
"You made it."
Her voice was calm.
Too calm.
Ryan stepped closer.
"Hannah..."
She interrupted.
"You chose her."
"I thought she was dying."
"You didn't even look at me."
Silence.
"I was six months pregnant."
Silence again.
"I trusted you."
Ryan felt every word strike harder than any collapsing building.
The obstetrician entered.
"Mrs. Carter is stable."
He paused.
"But the baby suffered oxygen deprivation."
"The next seventy-two hours will determine everything."
