Chapter 5 – The Last Call

Chapter 5 – The Last Call

One year later...

Captain Ryan Carter stood before a class of new firefighter recruits.

His suspension had ended months earlier.

His rank had been restored.

But the wedding ring never returned to his finger.

He placed a worn platinum band on the podium.

"This ring reminds me of the worst decision I've ever made."

The recruits remained silent.

Ryan continued.

"People think courage is running into burning buildings."

"They're wrong."

"Courage is remembering who has been standing beside you all along."

He looked out the window.

Across the street...

Hannah was helping their little boy take his first steps in a nearby park.

She had built a peaceful life.

Without him.

Ryan smiled sadly.

Not because he still hoped she would come back.

But because he finally understood love cannot survive on promises alone.

Sometimes...

The greatest tragedy isn't losing someone in a single moment.

It's realizing you lost them one choice at a time.

The End.
