Chapter 3 - THE SECURITY GUARD REVEALS WHAT HE SAW

The entire room became silent.
Mr. Adeyemi stared at the security guard.
“Who did you see entering Esther's room?”
The guard swallowed hard.
“I saw…”
He looked at Cynthia.
“…your daughter.”
Cynthia's face immediately changed.
“That is a lie!”
The guard shook his head.
“I'm not lying, ma.”
Cynthia stepped toward him angrily.
“Do you know who you're talking to?”
“Yes, ma. But I saw what I saw.”
Mr. Adeyemi looked at his daughter.
“Cynthia, why did you enter Esther's room?”
“I didn't!”
“You just said you never went there.”
“I—I mean… I don't remember.”
Esther stared at her.
“But you found my bracelet inside my bag.”
Cynthia became silent.
Mr. Adeyemi's voice became stern.
“Cynthia, tell me the truth.”
“I didn't put it there!”
The security guard suddenly spoke again.
“Sir, there's something else.”
Everyone turned toward him.
“What?”
“I didn't only see Cynthia entering Esther's room.”
Cynthia's eyes widened.
The guard continued.
“I saw her carrying something in her hand.”
Mrs. Adeyemi stood up.
“What was she carrying?”
The guard looked at Cynthia.
“A gold bracelet.”
Cynthia began shaking her head.
“No…”
Mr. Adeyemi looked at his daughter in disbelief.
“Cynthia…”
But before she could answer, her mother noticed something.
“Wait.”
She pointed at Cynthia's bedroom slippers.
“There is mud on them.”
The security guard nodded.
“Exactly, ma. It rained last night. Esther's room is at the back of the house. That's where I saw her.”
Cynthia suddenly ran upstairs.
“Cynthia!”
Mr. Adeyemi followed her.
When he entered her bedroom, Cynthia was standing beside her wardrobe.
She was holding a small black box.
Her father slowly walked toward her.
“What's inside that box?”
Cynthia didn't answer.
He opened it.
Inside were several expensive items that had supposedly disappeared from the house over the years.
Mrs. Adeyemi covered her mouth.
“Oh my God…”
Esther stood at the doorway, speechless.
Then Mr. Adeyemi looked at his daughter with tears in his eyes.
“Cynthia… how many maids have you accused of stealing these things?”
Cynthia began crying.
But then she said something that shocked everyone.
“I didn't do it alone.”
The room went silent.
Mr. Adeyemi stared at her.
“What do you mean?”
Cynthia looked toward her mother.
May you like
“Mummy knows.”
Mrs. Adeyemi froze.
