Chapter 8 - The Price of Protection

Marco did not aggressively gather a massive, loud army to violently attack the heavily fortified Romanov headquarters downtown.
He knew that a massive, chaotic street war would completely endanger innocent civilians and draw intense, highly aggressive police attention.
Instead, he went completely alone with Dante and two of his absolute best, most lethal silent assassins.
They aggressively infiltrated the massive Romanov penthouse through the underground maintenance tunnels, completely bypassing the heavy street-level security.
Marco moved through the dark, opulent hallways like a completely invisible ghost, a ruthless apex predator perfectly hunting his absolute greatest enemies.
His suppressed weapon spit quietly in the heavy darkness, aggressively dropping Russian guards before they could even reach for their radios.
He finally kicked open the heavy, reinforced double doors of the main executive office, perfectly surprising the ruthless Romanov boss, Viktor.
Viktor frantically grabbed for the heavy assault rifle resting on his massive mahogany desk, completely driven by sheer, unadulterated panic.
Marco completely ignored the danger, striding violently across the room and firing precisely, shattering Viktor’s dominant hand with a single bullet.
Viktor screamed in absolute, horrific agony, collapsing heavily into his expensive leather chair as his weapon clattered uselessly to the floor.
“You broke the rules, Marco!” Viktor shrieked frantically, clutching his bleeding, shattered hand. “You do not bring innocent women into our wars!”
“You are absolutely right, Viktor,” Marco whispered coldly, stepping directly over the massive desk and placing his gun entirely against Viktor’s forehead.
“I don't bring women into wars; I completely end the wars when you aggressively try to touch them.”
Before Viktor could even beg for his miserable life, the heavy office door suddenly burst completely open behind Marco.
A hidden, highly trained Russian sniper had frantically rushed into the room, instantly firing a heavy round directly at Marco’s broad back.
Marco violently spun around, instantly shooting the sniper directly in the chest, but it was a fraction of a second too late.
The heavy sniper bullet aggressively grazed Marco’s side, violently tearing through his dark suit and ripping a deep, bloody gash across his ribs.
Marco completely ignored the sudden, blinding, white-hot pain exploding in his side.
He turned completely back to Viktor, his eyes completely black with absolute, lethal rage, and decisively pulled the trigger.
The Romanov threat was officially, permanently eradicated, entirely wiped from the map of the criminal underworld in less than an hour.

Marco pressed his heavy hand firmly against his aggressively bleeding side, leaning heavily on Dante’s shoulder as they walked out.
He had completely secured Jenny’s absolute safety, but he was currently bleeding out on the cold floor of his enemy’s fortress.
