Chapter 6 - The Ultimate Choice

The console lit up displaying two choices. Restore the daughter.
Preserve the son. Only one button could be pressed.
The two choices burned across the console. Restore the daughter.
Preserve the son. Arabella kept the pistol aimed at Sebastian while her guards blocked the passage.
“Choose,” she said.
“One bloodline survives.
The other disappears.”
Kira stared at the knife between the buttons.
This is not Elena’s trial.
Victor Crest built it. That does not make the consequences less real, Arabella replied. Sebastian looked at Ruth.
If Kira restores her claim, what happens to me? Your identity dissolves, Ruth said. Your accounts freeze, your shares transfer, and every contract signed by Sebastian Vale becomes invalid.
And if she preserves me? Her inheritance remains buried, and the Crests control the estate through your marriage.
Arabella smiled. A practical solution.
Kira reached for the knife. Sebastian caught her wrist.
Do not bleed for this. Arabella fired into the ceiling. The next bullet enters Ruth.
A guard seized Ruth and forced her against the wall.
Kira’s voice hardened.
You threw my mother outside because you knew she could identify me. I threw her out because loyalty should be purchased, not respected. Ruth looked directly at Sebastian.
Elena never created a choice between her children. She always left a third path.
Sebastian examined the console. Between the glowing buttons sat a narrow groove filled with dust.
He brushed it clean. Three engraved words appeared. Return what was taken.
Arabella’s face changed.
Kira looked at Ruth. What does that mean?
Both heirs can return private ownership and restore the workers trust. There is no workers trust, Arabella snapped. Ruth opened the ledger and showed them its seal, two hands supporting a house.
Elena’s grandmother built the first Vale company with money pooled by domestic workers, factory women, and black business owners denied loans, Ruth said.
The Vales became the public face, but the workers held the original claim. Kira placed the baby bracelet inside the groove.
The console awakened. Two living claimants required.
Voluntary rejection must be spoken without coercion.
Arabella pressed the pistol against Ruth’s temple.
Then neither can speak freely. The screen flashed.
Coercion detected. Trial suspended. Every button went dark.
Sebastian almost smiled. You threatened the only people you needed obedient.
Arabella struck the console. A siren sounded.
Security breach reported to external trustees. Metal doors opened across the room.
Four elderly women entered wearing silver pins marked with the workers emblem. The first stopped before Ruth. You took long enough.
Ruth exhaled. I had to keep Kira alive.
Arabella aimed at them. Stay back.
The woman continued forward. I am Dr.May Hollis. My grandmother signed the original labor charter.
Put down the weapon. Arabella fired.
The bullet struck the wall beside May.
One guard grabbed Arabella’s arm before she could shoot again.
The second surrendered. Sebastian pulled Ruth away while Kira secured the pistol.

Arabella fought violently. I spent 12 years preparing to own this house. May looked at her coldly.
You spent 12 years preparing to marry a stolen name.
