Chapter 11 - The Phantom Ship

Two weeks later, on a foggy Tuesday night, an unscheduled commercial container vessel named the Northern Star entered New York Harbor without transmitting its automated customs transponder signal.

At 1:15 AM, Adrian’s private encrypted phone rang on his nightstand in Westchester.

“Boss,” Marco’s voice came through, tense and alert. “The Northern Star just docked at Pier 12—one of the parcels Vance acquired last week. They bypassed the standard coast guard quarantine lanes using a forged emergency maritime declaration.”

Adrian sat up immediately, slipping out of bed without disturbing Sophia, who was sleeping peacefully beneath the heavy down comforter.

“What is the cargo manifest?” Adrian asked, pulling on a black tactical sweater and dark trousers.

“The paperwork claims agricultural machinery from Rotterdam,” Marco replied. “However, our harbor informants report that thirty armed men in private security uniforms unloaded six reinforced steel crates directly into the underground staging vaults beneath Warehouse B.”

“Call the tactical strike division,” Adrian commanded, strapping his sidearm to his shoulder holster. “Rendezvous at the Red Hook staging perimeter in twenty minutes. We inspect that cargo personally.”

By 2:00 AM, four unmarked black tactical vans were staged in the shadows of the industrial rail corridor overlooking Pier 12.

Through the dense sea fog, Adrian observed the activity through high-powered infrared binoculars. Men dressed in tactical black gear were patrolling the perimeter with automatic carbines, while a crane lowered the final steel container into the subterranean freight elevator of Warehouse B.

“Thermal imaging confirms high-density electronic equipment and biometric locking mechanisms inside those crates,” Marco whispered from the passenger seat. “This isn't machinery, boss. It’s a mobile signals-intelligence interception hub.”

“Vance didn't come to smuggle contraband,” Adrian deduced, the pieces falling into place with terrifying clarity. “He came to install a military-grade surveillance grid to tap into our port logistics network and the federal customs database.”

Adrian drew his suppressed automatic weapon, checking the chamber with a quiet mechanical click.

“Execute breach protocol,” Adrian ordered. “Disable their communications, secure the warehouse, and take the commanding engineer alive.”
