Chapter 6 - A New Dawn

The sun was setting over the city skyline, casting a warm, brilliant amber glow across the panoramic windows of my penthouse office at Sterling Global.

The desk was clear of clutter, save for a single leather folder containing Daniel’s signed confession, the finalized divorce papers, and the complete financial recovery audit report. Downstairs, the media storm was finally beginning to quiet down, replaced by glowing financial analyses praising the firm’s unprecedented stability and resilience under my direct leadership.

My phone buzzed gently on the desk. I picked it up and saw a text message from Arthur Sterling:

“Board meeting confirmation set for tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM. The restructuring is fully approved. Welcome home, CEO.”

I smiled, locking the phone and setting it gently beside my mother’s gold-rimmed fountain pen.

For months, I had lived in the shadow of a man who thought my silence was a weakness, who believed that because I didn't raise my voice, I didn't hold any power. He had whispered his arrogant little phrase in the dark, convinced he had stripped me of everything.

He was right about one thing. I never saw it coming.

Because what was coming wasn't a tragedy. It was a takeover.
