Chapter 4 - Confrontation in CourtAt the protective measures hearing in Miami family court, Derek attempted to present himself as the victim of a misunderstanding. He claimed the coffee had spilled during an argument and insisted that Skylar had exaggerated the incident because she disliked Suzanne.

Mrs. Greer supported his story. She described Derek as a devoted husband and accused Skylar of tearing the family apart over money.

The judge was not convinced.

Sandra submitted the hospital photographs, medical report, police complaint, threatening messages, and financial records. She also presented audio recordings in which Derek demanded Skylar’s bank card and warned her that she would lose her home if she continued refusing his family.

One recording captured Suzanne discussing which of Skylar’s possessions she wanted. Another included Derek saying that Skylar would eventually “learn who controls the money.”

The judge rejected their claim that the coffee incident had been accidental. Skylar received full legal protection, and Derek was ordered to stay away from her home, workplace, and personal accounts. The court confirmed that the apartment belonged to Skylar and directed Derek to remove his remaining property under supervision.

The financial evidence was then transferred to criminal investigators.
