Chapter 6 - Reclaiming FreedomAfter everything was over, Skylar made an important decision.

She stayed in the Edgewater apartment.
She refused to allow Derek and his family to drive her out of the home she had earned. She replaced the damaged furniture, repainted the walls, changed the locks, and completely remodeled the kitchen where the attack had occurred.
Her friends Megan and Lucy helped her through the process. They brought food, stayed with her during the hardest evenings, and slowly helped her rebuild a sense of normal life.
Months later, Skylar sat in her bright new kitchen with them, drinking coffee from a new set of cups. The room no longer felt like the place where her marriage had ended. It felt like proof that she had survived.
For the first time in years, no one was demanding access to her money. No one was threatening to take her home. No one was telling her that love required obedience.

Skylar had protected her apartment, recovered her finances, and exposed the family that had tried to steal both.
More importantly, she had reclaimed her freedom.
