“He killed Elena.”
“He hid negligence that killed her.”
“The distinction does not save him.”
“It saves you.”
His eyes burned.
“Hannah.”
“If you touch him now, his lawyers turn this into fear, coercion, and a private family war. The report becomes secondary. Sophia watches you answer truth with the same thing you used when you blamed the wrong men.”
His breathing changed.
I lowered my voice.
“Do not make the truth smaller.”
For one terrible second, I thought he would move me.
He did not.
Behind me, Gabriel began to speak quickly.
“The surveillance was only to know whether Hannah contacted investigators. I never ordered anyone to hurt her.”
Hayes placed the Sentinel Meridian payment record on the table.
“You authorized a team to frighten her.”
“To follow her.”
“The operational note says pressure witness into withdrawal.”
Gabriel’s face emptied.
Luca looked at him over my shoulder.
“You endangered her too.”
“I panicked.”
“You always panic after someone else pays.”
The officers entered.
Gabriel did not resist.
At the door, he looked back at Luca.
“I loved your family.”
Luca’s face held no mercy.
“That is what makes this unforgivable.”
Gabriel was charged with falsifying municipal safety records, obstruction, fraud, witness intimidation, and conspiracy connected to the surveillance operation.
The city reopened the Ashwood collapse case.
Northline Civic Solutions admitted the reinforcement order had been delayed after pressure from Moretti security.
The maintenance director pleaded guilty to false statements and cooperated.
Gabriel eventually entered a plea that required him to describe every step of the concealment under oath.
He received a long prison sentence.
No sentence restored Elena.
No courtroom returned three years to Sophia.
