Adrian faced criminal investigation following Delaney's disappearance.
The financial allegations continued to be examined separately.
Damon cooperated with authorities.
He refused to use his own men to retaliate.
Frank was surprised.
“Sir, your father would have handled this differently.”
Damon looked at him.
“I know.”
Frank waited.
Damon continued.
“That's why I'm doing it this way.”
Delaney returned home after medical evaluation.
Damon offered to arrange temporary accommodation somewhere secure.
She hesitated.
“I don't want to be a burden.”
He shook his head.
“You're not.”
She considered.
Then agreed to stay in a guest apartment on the estate for a short period while safety arrangements were reviewed.
Isabella was delighted.
“My girl!”
Delaney laughed.
“Hello, Mrs. Bianchi.”
The older woman hugged her.
Then looked at Damon.
“You took too long.”
He smiled.
“Mom.”
She waved him away.
“Always too long.”
That evening, Delaney sat in the conservatory.
Damon joined her.
“Can I ask you something?”
She nodded.
“Why did you help my mother?”
Delaney looked at him.
“You already asked me that.”
“I know.”
She smiled.
“Because she was cold.”
He stared.
“That's all?”
She nodded.
“Isn't that enough?”
Damon looked down.
Then whispered:
“It should be.”
He took a breath.
“Delaney, I care about you.”
Her heart pounded.
He continued.
“But I don't want you to feel obligated to me.”
She smiled softly.
“I don't.”
He looked at her.
“Good.”
