Chapter 4 - The Midnight Confession

Sofia couldn't sleep. At 2:00 AM, she crept down to the massive industrial kitchen to get a glass of warm milk.
She found Dante sitting at the marble island in the dark, a glass of amber tequila in his hand. He looked exhausted, the weight of his violent empire pressing heavily on his broad shoulders.
"Can't sleep?" he asked, his voice rough.
"No, sir," Sofia replied, freezing in the doorway.
"Sit," he commanded gently, gesturing to the stool beside him.
Sofia hesitated, then sat. For a long moment, the most dangerous man in Mexico and the girl from the slums sat in companionable silence.
"I owe you my life, Sofia," Dante said suddenly, staring into his glass. "I was losing him. I was losing my son, and it was killing me faster than any bullet ever could. You brought him back to me."
Sofia looked at Dante's profile. The sharp jaw, the dark, intense eyes. He was a ruthless man, but his love for Leo was fiercely, painfully real.
"He’s incredibly brave, Mr. Navarro," Sofia whispered. "But he is still fighting a war inside his head. A war you can't see."
Dante turned to her, his gaze dropping to her lips before meeting her eyes again. The air between them suddenly felt charged, heavy with an unspoken tension. "What do you mean by that?"
Sofia opened her mouth to tell him about the drawing. To tell him about Hector.

But before she could speak, the kitchen doors swung open, and two armed guards stepped in. "Boss. We have a perimeter breach at the southern warehouse. Hector requested you on-site."
Dante sighed, the moment shattered. He stood up, placing a warm, heavy hand on Sofia's shoulder. "We will finish this conversation tomorrow."
