After full evaluation, Rebecca called again.
“The team would like to proceed with you as the donor if you’re still willing.”
I sat down.
“Why me?”
She explained.
The registry search had not produced an ideal fully matched donor available within the preferred timeframe.
The physicians had compared their alternative options.
Given my age, health, HLA compatibility, and other clinical factors, they believed marrow from me was a reasonable and strong option.
Not guaranteed.
Nothing about transplant was guaranteed.
“Is this the part where you ask me to decide?”
“No.”
