Chapter 3 - A NEW ROLE

Three days passed, and the bruises on my neck faded from violent purple to a dull yellow-green.
I tried to return to my normal maid duties, grabbing my mop and bucket to clean the grand entryway.
But as soon as I dipped my hands into the soapy water, Gianni, Carmine’s right-hand man, stepped into the hall.
"Put the bucket down, Ivy," Gianni said with a stoic expression.
"Did I do something wrong?" I asked nervously, dropping the rag back into the suds.
"Mr. DeLuca has reassigned you," Gianni explained, gesturing toward the grand staircase. "You are no longer house staff."
He led me upstairs to a beautifully furnished room on the second floor, complete with a king-sized bed and a balcony.
On the bed lay three garment bags filled with elegant, high-end clothes and a brand-new pair of leather shoes.
"Mr. DeLuca requires you to act as his personal assistant," Gianni said, handing me a small black smartphone.
"I don't know anything about being an assistant," I protested, looking around the luxurious room in disbelief.
"Your main job is to stay near him, stay safe, and answer his private line when it rings," Gianni replied coldly before turning to leave.

I sat on the edge of the plush mattress, holding the expensive phone, wondering why a mafia kingpin was keeping me so close.
