Chapter 3
There was no return address.Only his name.
He opened it.
Inside were several folders, faded photographs, bank statements, and copies of legal documents.
Daniel picked up the first folder.
His eyes traveled across the page.
Then stopped.
“What the hell?”
Evelyn abruptly appeared behind him.
“What is going on?”
Daniel turned.
“Mom, did you know about this?”
She froze.
That was the first thing that alarmed me.
Not the papers.
Not the box.
Her reaction.
She instantly tried to close the lid.
“Daniel, put that away.”
Ryan stepped forward.
“No.”
Evelyn glared at him.
“This is a family matter.”
Ryan pointed toward me.
“You left your new wife outside in freezing weather. You don’t get to call this private anymore.”
Daniel opened another folder.
His face turned pale.
There were documents related to the house.
The mortgage.
The property records.
