Chapter 10 - The Siege of the Estate and the Ultimate Test of Love

The blaring sirens echoed through the cavernous halls of the Langford estate like a war horn. Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows of the grand study, the thick security fog began rolling across the manicured lawns, obscuring the driveway in a blanket of white.
Archer burst into the room, his jacket discarded, the sleeves of his crisp white shirt rolled up to his forearms, a tactical tablet clutched tightly in his hand. His face was set in grim, absolute focus.
“Pippa! Get Evelyn down to the reinforced panic suite in the basement immediately,” Archer commanded, his voice cutting through the blaring alarms.
“What about you?” I demanded, stepping forward instead of running. “Archer, what’s happening out there?”
“Sterling-Vance corporate mercenaries,” Archer replied tersely, his eyes flashing with lethal fury. “They aren't waiting for a court battle anymore. They’re here to wipe out the physical evidence in our vaults.”
“I’m not leaving you,” I said firmly, my voice leaving no room for argument. I grabbed a heavy iron poker from the fireplace hearth, gripping it with both hands. “I survived six months of Colette’s torture under this roof, Archer. I am not about to hide in a basement while men attack our home.”
Archer stared at me for one breathless second, seeing the unyielding fire burning in my eyes. A fierce, proud smile broke through his tense expression. He grabbed a heavy-duty security radio from the desk and handed it to me. “Stay behind me. If anyone gets past my line of fire, you make sure Evelyn is safe.”
Heavy thudding footsteps echoed outside the heavy oak doors of the study. Before Archer could even raise his sidearm, the reinforced wooden door was blown off its hinges by a deafening explosive charge, sending splinters flying in every direction.
Through the smoke, three masked mercenaries clad in tactical gear rushed into the room, assault rifles raised.
What followed was a masterclass in tactical combat. Archer moved with blinding speed, disarming the lead attacker with a brutal roundhouse kick that sent his weapon clattering across the marble floor. As the second mercenary lunged toward him, I didn't hesitate—I swung the heavy iron poker with all my might, catching the intruder squarely across the knees, dropping him instantly with a sharp cry of pain.
Within seconds, Marcus Vance and the estate security team flooded the room, pinning the remaining intruders to the floor and slapping zip-ties around their wrists.
The smoke cleared. The alarms automatically silenced.
Archer walked over to me, his chest heaving, his eyes wide with a mix of adrenaline and overwhelming adoration. He pulled me straight into his arms, crushing me against his chest as if he never wanted to let go again.

“You are officially the most dangerous housekeeper—and future wife—in this entire country,” Archer whispered against my hair, chuckling softly through the lingering adrenaline.
I smiled, resting my head against his solid chest, knowing that no matter what storms lay ahead, we were completely invincible together.
