Chapter 7 - The Midnight Revelation in the Botanical Gardens

The starlight filtered softly through the glass panes of the grand botanical conservatory at the back of the Langford estate. The air was thick with the rich scent of blooming orchids and damp earth, providing a serene escape from the relentless chaos of the corporate world.
I sat on a wrought-iron bench near the central fountain, the gentle sound of trickling water calming the lingering anxieties in my chest. Footsteps echoed softly against the stone pathway, and a moment later, Archer’s tailored jacket draped gently over my shoulders, carrying his warm, familiar scent.
He sat down beside me, wrapping an arm around my waist and pulling me gently against his side. “You were incredible in that boardroom today, Pippa,” he murmured, pressing a soft kiss into my hair. “You didn't flinch once.”
I leaned my head against his shoulder, letting out a soft sigh. “I didn't have time to be scared, Archer. For six months, I had to keep your mother alive while living in constant fear of what Colette might do next. Compared to that, a room full of arrogant executives in suits feels almost tame.”
Archer went quiet for a moment. When he spoke again, his voice carried a raw, vulnerable weight I had rarely heard before. “I never should have left you behind, Pippa. When I took over the international expansion, I thought I was securing our family’s future. I didn't realize I was leaving my mother—and you—in the hands of a monster.”
I reached up, gently placing my hand against his cheek, forcing him to look at me in the dim starlight. “Stop blaming yourself, Archer. You couldn't have known. And more importantly... you came back. You saw the truth, you dismantled their entire network of cruelty, and you gave us all a second chance.”
Archer’s dark eyes softened. He caught my hand, pressing his lips to my palm, sending a warm shiver straight down my spine. “My mother wants us to move forward,” he whispered, his gaze dropping to my lips. “And honestly... I’ve been waiting six months to do this.”

Before I could draw another breath, his lips met mine. The kiss was gentle at first, a soft acknowledgment of everything we had survived together, before deepening into something fierce, passionate, and overwhelmingly consuming. My hands found their way into his hair, pulling him closer as the world around us completely faded away. In that quiet, magical sanctuary beneath the glass dome, all the pain, humiliation, and fear of the past dissolved into nothingness.
