Chapter 5 - Pay to Eat

Julian’s face violently twitched. He looked at the receipt, then at his mother, whose pale, panicked face said it all. But his ego wouldn't let him admit defeat.
"You snoped through her bag?!" Julian bellowed, trying to regain control. "Whatever! It's my money! I am paying the mortgage on this place, so I make the rules!"
I threw my head back and laughed. It was a dark, hollow sound that echoed off the vaulted ceilings.
"Mortgage?" I stepped closer, forcing him to back up. "What mortgage, Julian?"

He stared at me, his brain short-circuiting.
"Every single bit of this penthouse," I continued, tapping the marble countertop, "was bought with cash. By the wife you just called a parasite. Starting tomorrow morning, whoever wants to eat in this house, pays for it."
